Butyl acetate, abbreviated as butyl acetate, is a colorless, transparent liquid with a pleasant fruity aroma. Lower level homologues are insoluble and miscible with organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and ketones, making them flammable. Acute toxicity is relatively low, but it has strong irritation to the eyes and nose, and can cause anesthesia at high concentrations. Butyl acetate is an excellent organic solvent with good solubility for ethyl cellulose, butyrate cellulose acetate, polystyrene, methyl methacrylate resin, chlorinated rubber, and various natural tree resins.
Safety measures
Store in a low-temperature ventilated area, away from sources of fire and heat. Storage and transportation of oxidants, acids and bases. Do not use tools that are prone to sparking.
Fire extinguishing: insoluble foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder, sand.
Emergency handling
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly rinse the skin with soap and water.
Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse with plenty of flowing water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly leave the scene and move to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately perform artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water and induce vomiting.
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, and bases, and avoid mixing storage. Adopt explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Prohibit the use of mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to generating sparks. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials.
