Acetonitrile is an organic compound with the molecular formula C2H3N. It is a colorless liquid that is highly volatile and has a special odor similar to ether. It has excellent solvent properties and can dissolve various organic, inorganic, and gaseous substances. It has certain toxicity and is infinitely miscible with water and alcohol. Acetonitrile can undergo typical nitrile reactions and is used to prepare many typical nitrogen-containing compounds, making it an important organic intermediate. Acetonitrile can be used as a solvent for the synthesis of vitamin A, cortisone, carboamine drugs and their intermediates, as well as for the production of active medium solvents for vitamin B1 and amino acids. Can replace chlorinated solvents. Used for ethylene based coatings, as well as extractants for fatty acids, alcohol denaturing agents, butadiene extractants, and solvents for acrylonitrile synthetic fibers. It also has many applications in fabric dyeing, lighting, fragrance manufacturing, and photosensitive material manufacturing.

First aid measures

Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly rinse the skin with soap and water.

Storage precautions

Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, reducing agents, acids, bases, flammable materials, and edible chemicals, and should not be stored together. Adopt explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Prohibit the use of mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to generating sparks. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials.
