Tetrachloroethylene is an organic compound with the molecular formula C2Cl4. It easily evaporates into the air, carrying a stimulating and sweet scent. Very high concentrations of tetrachloroethylene can cause dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, confusion, nausea, difficulty speaking and walking, loss of consciousness, and death.
Application for purpose
1. Tetrachloroethylene is widely used, mainly as a metal degreasing solvent and also as a anthelmintic. Tetrachloroethylene can be used as a fat extractant, fire extinguishing agent, smoke screen agent, etc. It can also be used to synthesize trichloroethylene and fluorinated organic compounds.
2. Widely used as a dry cleaning agent for natural and synthetic fibers. Also used as a degreasing detergent for metals, general solvents, organic synthesis intermediates, etc.
3. Used as a standard substance for chromatographic analysis.
4. Used as insect repellent and fat extractant for adhesives, as well as for organic synthesis.
First aid measures
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly rinse the skin with soap and water.
Eye contact: Lift the eyelids and rinse with flowing water or saline solution. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly leave the scene and move to a place with fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If breathing stops, immediately perform artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Drink plenty of warm water and induce vomiting. Seek medical attention.
Storage matters
Ventilation and low-temperature drying in the warehouse; Store separately from oxidants and food additives; Storage requires the addition of stabilizers, such as hydroquinone.
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The packaging requires sealing and must not come into contact with air. It should be stored separately from alkali, active metal powders, alkali metals, and edible chemicals, and should not be stored together. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials.
