Introduction to Cyclohexanone

Cyclohexanone is an organic compound that is a saturated cyclic ketone containing carbonyl carbon atoms in a hexagonal ring. A colorless and transparent liquid with a earthy odor, containing trace amounts of phenol, it has a mint flavor. Impurities are light yellow in color and develop into impurities over time, ranging from water white to grayish yellow, with a strong pungent odor. Mixing with air has the same explosive polarity as open chain saturated ketones. It is mainly used as an organic synthesis raw material and solvent in industry, for example, it can dissolve nitrocellulose, coatings, paints, etc.


Function and Application

Cyclohexanone is an important chemical raw material and a major intermediate for the production of nylon, caprolactam, and adipic acid. It is also an important industrial solvent, such as for paints, especially for those containing nitrocellulose, vinyl chloride polymers and their copolymers, or methacrylate polymer paints. An excellent solvent for organophosphate insecticides and many similar pesticides, used as a solvent for dyes, as a viscous solvent for piston type aviation lubricants, and as a solvent for grease, wax, and rubber. It is also used as a homogenizer for dyeing and fading silk, a degreaser for polishing metals, and for coloring and painting wood. Cyclohexanone can be used for film removal, stain removal, and spot removal. Cyclohexanone is condensed with cyanoacetic acid to obtain cyclohexene cyanacetic acid, which is then eliminated and decarboxylated to obtain cyclohexene acetonitrile. Finally, cyclohexene ethylamine is obtained by hydrogenation [3399-73-3]. Cycloene ethylamine is an intermediate of drugs such as cough medley and trimethoprim.


Used as a high boiling solvent for nail polish and other cosmetics. Usually mixed solvents are prepared with low boiling point solvents and medium boiling point solvents to achieve suitable volatilization rate and viscosity.


Storage precautions

Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, reducing agents, etc., and avoid mixing storage. Adopt explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Prohibit the use of mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to generating sparks. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials;
