1,2-propanediol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O2, which is miscible with water, ethanol, and various organic solvents. Under normal circumstances, it is a colorless viscous liquid, almost odorless, and slightly sweet when smelled. Propylene glycol can be used as a raw material for unsaturated polyester resins and can be combined with glycerol or sorbitol as a wetting agent in cosmetics, toothpaste, and soap. Used in hair dye as a moisture regulator, hair homogenizer, antifreeze, as well as in the glass paper, plasticizer, and pharmaceutical industries.

Storage conditions

Although this product does not spontaneously ignite, it is a combustible material. Long term storage does not deteriorate, but when opened, it absorbs moisture. Storage and transportation containers should be made of galvanized iron drums, aluminum or stainless steel. Store and transport according to general regulations for low toxicity chemicals. Avoid contact with water and humid environments. The storage tank must be kept clean, dry, and rust free. It must be stored in a location with embankments, air circulation, and free from direct sunlight, open flames, and other heat sources. Large storage tanks (with a capacity of 100 m3 or more) are recommended to be sealed with nitrogen. Keep the container tightly sealed. Keep it dry.
